In the realm of youth athletics, few figures have the potential to leave as lasting a mark as a dedicated coach. Heather Sloan embodies this spirit, a beacon of inspiration and growth for young volleyball players throughout her community. With her recent appointment as an official coach for the 2025 All State Game, Coach Sloan is poised to make an extraordinary impact on the lives of advanced youth athletes. This honor not only recognizes her extensive experience but also highlights her unwavering commitment to fostering talent and passion in the sport.
Heather’s journey began when she stepped onto the court as a young athlete herself. A proud graduate of Bethel High School, she showcased her incredible talents as a standout player on the volleyball team, culminating in a state championship in 1996. This early success ignited a lifelong passion for the sport, eventually evolving into a desire to nurture the next generation of volleyball stars.
With over 20 years of coaching experience, Heather’s career is a testament to her dedication and love for the game. Beginning in 1998 as a junior varsity coach at Frontier Junior High, she honed her skills while developing future athletes. Transitioning to Graham Kapowsin High School, she coached the junior varsity team from 2007 to 2011, nurturing her players with the same care and passion she once received as a student-athlete.
In 2015, after taking a brief hiatus to support her children’s aspirations in sports, she returned to Bethel High School, where she embraced the role of junior varsity coach. Her vision and leadership were recognized, leading to her promotion to varsity head coach in 2018. From there, she continued to build her legacy by taking over the varsity program at Bethel Middle School in 2019, focusing on establishing a strong foundation for high school athletes in her community.
One of Heather’s most significant contributions to volleyball has been her dedication to youth development. In 2024, she took a monumental step by launching Bethel High School’s first youth volleyball camp. Hosting 83 young athletes from grades 2 to 8, the camp served not only as a skill-building opportunity but also as a platform to instill the values of teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship in the next generation.
Beyond school programs, Heather’s coaching experience extends to club volleyball, where she led FID Volleyball teams for several years. Her commitment to player development is evident in her active role as an Assistant/Volunteer Coach for Pierce Community College Volleyball, continually seeking ways to expand her knowledge and expertise while mentoring young athletes.
