In the realm of youth sports, few individuals embody the passion, dedication, and transformative power of coaching quite like Latasha Roach. As the recently appointed official coach for the upcoming 2025 All State Game, Latasha stands poised to shape the lives and futures of advanced youth athletes from across Texas. Her journey, rooted in hard work and a deep commitment to education and empowerment, has laid the foundation for an impactful role that promises to inspire the next generation of basketball stars.
Latasha Roach’s love affair with basketball began in the vibrant heart of Dallas, Texas, where her formidable skills first emerged at Lincoln High School. Recognized for her exceptional talents, Latasha was honored at a special ring ceremony, a testament to her passion and skill on the court. This early achievement ignited a flame in her that would guide her through a successful journey in both education and athletics.
Upon completing high school, Latasha charted a dual path that balanced her love for basketball with an unwavering commitment to education. She enrolled at Jarvis Christian College, earning her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies in Education in 2004. Yet, her legacy on the court was just beginning. As a standout player in the NAIA-Red River Conference, she garnered numerous accolades, including three MVP titles, recognition as the #1 Rebounder in the Nation, and honors as a 1st Team All-Conference player for three consecutive years. Her prowess didn’t go unnoticed, as she also clinched the title of Defensive Player of the Year during her college tenure.
Latasha’s pursuit of knowledge didn’t end with her undergraduate studies. In 2014, she earned a Master of Science in Criminology from Texas A&M Commerce University, further expanding her academic horizons. Now, as she works diligently towards a second Master’s degree in Sports Administration and Educational Leadership from Southeastern Oklahoma University—expected completion in May 2025—Latasha continues to epitomize the belief that education is a lifelong journey.
Her roles extend far beyond the basketball court; she also serves as an Adjunct Criminal Justice professor and an Academic Coach at Dallas College. Here, she inspires and supports students, helping them unlock their potential and achieve their academic goals.
With over a decade of coaching under her belt, Latasha has made significant strides in women’s basketball. As the Senior Head Coach at Dallas College-Cedar Valley Campus, she has successfully led her team to the national tournament semifinals, a testament to her exceptional leadership skills. Her coaching prowess has been recognized multiple times, earning her the title of Coach of the Year for the Dallas Athletics Conference in 2020, 2022, and 2023, as well as the Southeast District Coach of the Year in both 2020 and 2023.
Latasha Roach’s impressive credentials and accolades are not merely personal achievements; they serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for her players. By understanding the unique pressures and challenges that young athletes face, Latasha provides a nurturing environment where they can flourish both on and off the court, emphasizing the importance of character development alongside athletic excellence.
As Latasha prepares for her role as coach at the 2025 All State Game, her influence will extend far beyond tactics and playbooks. In alignment with the All State Game’s mission and values, Latasha embraces the commitment that no athlete should be sidelined due to financial constraints. She recognizes the importance of equal access to opportunities, ensuring that every accepted player has the chance to showcase their skills and represent their community. With her at the helm, athletes will not only be trained in the fundamentals of basketball but also equipped with life skills that will serve them well beyond the court.
